Daily Practice Session:
Technical Concepts: worked on breathing again and breath warm ups such as short "huh" while activating the diaphragm. Also worked on phrasing.
Minutes:15
Repertoire: Love Can't Happen and Heaven on their Minds from Jesus Christ Superstar.
20 minutes
Success: Working on phrasing helps me not think about the notes and focus more on character. This really helped with Heaven on Their Minds! Love Can't Happen also has a more poetic sound when I focused on phrasing. Also helps with character to break the phrasing.
Areas for improvement: Still working in rock scream in Heaven on their Minds. Will discuss that in my lesson.
Notes: glad I found time to practice today before seeing the show! If you don't believe me, ask Leonard, he was here!
Attended Performance:
Jan 2nd at 7:30
Show/Venue: American Idiot at the St. James Theatre.
Performers: Billy Joe Armstrong, John Gallagher Jr., Stark Sands, Michael Spar and Leslie McDonel to name a few!
What did you most enjoy: I loved loved loved the modern choreography used in the show. Not very technical, but very taxing and creative! Billy Joe sounded great and it was cool to see him perform his music!
Observations and Remembrances: There is a part for every type and person in this show! It's amazing to see Broadway breaking the boundaries! Also, everyone knows how to at least play the guitar...intimidating. the show was good. A little disconnected and not an amazing through-line, but still good! Hearing Leslie McDonel belt it out was the most memorable part for me. Well the dancing too!
The pic is on its way. I'm blogging from a phone and doing the best I can! See ya tomorrow!
